To purchase a new supercharger from GM is $2,100 or you can get a rebuilt supercharger for about $1,000.  Most of the time, the problem lies in the coupler in the snout of the supercharger.  The main drive for the supercharger is connected to internal rotors through a spacer/coupler.  Over time, the holes in this coupler become egg shaped and this causes the rattling and knocking noise you hear in your supercharger at idle.

If you are not sure where your noise is coming from, you can try to isolate the noise by removing the supercharger belt and seeing if the noise is still there.  If the noise went away, the noise is most likely coming from your supercharger.  You can also rock the drive pulley for the supercharger back and forth to see if there is any play.  If there is play, your coupler is worn and needs replaced.

When I was told how much it was going to cost to fix the supercharger, I was ready to trade the car in for a loss.  I decided to take the supercharger apart and figure out what was causing the noise.  I figured it couldn't hurt, the car was almost worthless with a bad supercharger.  When I took the supercharger apart I found the supercharger coupler had oblong holes and that was causing the problem.  I later found out GM does not make this coupler!

Since GM does not make this coupler, I have had it manufactured.

The coupler is made here in the USA, Ohio to be exact.

I realized that there were many GM Supercharger owners who have had the same problem I did and didn't have the resources to manufacture this part.  I now supply a local Buick Dealer (who employs the #1 rated Buick mechanic in the U.S.) with couplers to fix the cars that come into their shop with noisy superchargers.

Don't spend $2,100 for a new supercharger when you can get this repair kit.  This repair kit includes the parts you or your mechanic needs to replace your supercharger coupler.

Your kit comes with:

  • Genuine GM Supercharger to Manifold Gasket
  • Anaerobic Gasket Maker for the Supercharger Snout

Remember!!  GM does not make the coupler for the supercharger but they will sell you a new supercharger for $2,100!!

It should only take your mechanic about 30 - 45 minutes to replace the coupler once the supercharger is off the car.

Or, you can do this repair yourself, if you feel comfortable with taking the supercharger apart.  Complete installation instructions are included with this kit.
